02.26.2005: The Annual Domain Cleveland Suicide Prevention Benefit @ Hi-Fi Concert Club
The Annual Domain Cleveland Suicide Prevention show, held at the Hi-Fi club this year, was definitely a great night and a good time had by all in attendance. With a crowd that was by far more than I had thought would turn out, the night turned out to be a success for a good cause. And it was my first time seeing many of these bands, so it was a chance to open my eyes to some great new local music.
First up tonight was Plasma and they bought a very eclectic sound to the stage. More of funk sound, they were really a good band to open the night up. They got the place in the mood to have a good time. The funky grooves really were a welcome and refreshing sound, can?t wait to see these guys again.
Next up was one of my favorites of the night, By Their Blood. $Bill told me this was one of the first shows they had played, but you wouldn?t have known it. Sounding really tight like they had been together for awhile, BTB played a solid half hour set of good hardcore. Nothing new or out of the ordinary, but just really tight and well rounded. This is a band you have to check out live.
Exzist was the next band up. Nice sound, they had the ability to pull off a variety of different sounds in their set, with the louder industrial/ metal core sound followed by a nice acoustic song from their guitarist. Another band that wasn?t trying to do anything new, but was just flat out solid in the delivery.
Fourth, October Guard hit the stage. I didn?t catch enough of them to write an honest review (some old friends who came out had my ear), but from what I could hear, they had a nice sound. More of a rock sound, it was a good break from the louder music we had heard previously.
The Firmary, led by Domain Cleveland?s own Doug Esper put on a great show. Only the second time in nearly a year that I have had the privilege of seeing these guys play. The awesome thing about these guys is that you can?t really put them into a certain genre of music. They play all over, which is what sets them apart and makes them different. Doug flies around onstage and does his thing and everyone else does his own part to make this machine work out. The Firmary are good, need I say more?
At No End was the final band of the night. I saw these guys a few weeks ago when they opened for Hatrix and was happy to see they were on the bill for tonight?s show. Bringing some of that sick Agnostic Front meets Hatebreed sound, these guys flat out owned the stage when they took it. Brutal hardcore like it?s meant to be played is the best way to describe ANE. Hopefully more people will take the time to go see these guys soon. A perfect band to cap off a good night for a great cause.
